CANBERRA, Australia (AP) -- Police shocked a 95-year-old woman with a stun gun as she approached them using a walker and carrying a steak knife in an Australian nursing home, sending her to the hospital in critical condition after her head hit the floor.

Police Commissioner Karen Webb met with the family of Clare Nowland on Friday and said the next few days would likely be “very difficult” for the 95-year-old’s loved ones.

Hopefully, a proper inquiry will address the issues leading up to the Tasering of the woman and not focus entirely on the action of the senior constable alone.

The Cooma great-grandmother is now receiving end-of-life care.
