The San Francisco filmmaker will receive this year’s Honors Award for her superb documentaries, including “Good Trouble” and the Netflix series “Bobby Kennedy for President.”

Bobby Kennedy for President, a new Netflix original documentary series which is being directed by Dawn Porter is set for a global launch on April 27th. 

Many states are upset with Uncle Sam these days. Seems they don't like being pushed to achieve reasonable goals. Starting Oct. 1, the federal government will demand that states meet new standards for helping people get off welfare. In order to keep receiving federal money, states will need to make sure at least half of their welfare recipients find jobs or at least search for work rigorously.

By all accounts, Bill Clinton seemed to thoroughly enjoy delivering his prime-time speech to a rapt audience at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte. In his 48-minute tour de force, one of the former president’s whistle stops was welfare reform. Clinton warned his listeners that the charge he was about to rebut was “a real doozy”: President Obama wants to weaken the work requirements in the welfare reform bill I signed that moved millions of people from welfare to work. The 1996 welfare reform began necessary changes to the disastrous old welfare system. The rewards to non-work in the TANF program have been substantially reduced. But much more remains to be done.
