An attorney for the plaintiffs called the ruling “a landmark victory — probably the biggest ruling in favor of people living with HIV in the last 20 years."

"The military was the last employer in the country that had a policy against people living with HIV," attorney Peter Perkowski said.

The ruling affects about 2,000 soldiers currently serving while living with HIV. Advocates say they have been discharged or passed up for promotion because of HIV.
