This is my favorite time of year, when all the seed catalogs start showing up. One thing I should warn you about: dont expect Santa to take care of your garden wish list. I dont think he knows much about gardening, coming from the North Pole.

Every year about this time I start thinking I would like to buy a poinsettia and try to keep it alive for the whole year until next Christmas. I am not sure why this appeals to me, that is "did" appeal to me until I ran across an article by Dr. Leonard Perry, Extension Professor, University of Vermont. Here are some highlights. Pay close attention to the second paragraph.

Dhruba Dhakal, MU Extension horticulture specialist, had an excelent article on improving garden soil. Here is part 2 of the article.

Can you believe the beautiful weather we have had?

We sure have had beautiful fall weather, although we are still pretty dry. A few years ago while at a gardening festival I purchased some sunchoke tubers. They are one of my perennial crops the was not affected by last summers drought.

One of the most popular perennials in the flower garden today is the peony. Not only is it an attractive garden plant, but a fragrant cut flower, too. It is easy to take care of and can have a long life. September and October is an ideal month for planting or transplanting this great ornamental.

We sure are having some beautiful weather. Of course I am writing this about a week before you will be reading i,t so with Missouri weather, things could change drastically. Hopefully it is still nice.
