A Florida jury sentenced Parkland school shooter Nikolas Cruz to life in prison for the murders of 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

In 2018, Nikolas Cruz walked into Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, shooting and killing 17 people. Four years later, a jury decided that Cruz should be sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Anne Ramsay, whose 17-year-old daughter Helena was one of 17 people shot dead in the 2018 attack, said she felt let down by the jury at the conclusion of the mammoth three month trial on Thursday.

The jury found there were aggravating factors to warrant the death penalty for each victim, however, they also found mitigating factors. And the jury could not agree that the aggravating factors outweighed the mitigating ones.

The failure, they all said, was placed on the jury. Their disappointments were in the jurors and in the law enforcement systems that brought them all to the courtroom.

The jury foreman said three of the jurors ultimately voted for life in prison, with one of them being a "hard no" on the death penalty and another two ultimately choosing to vote against it as well.
