Congressman welch mentioned this, that the president withheld u.s. military aid to ukraine in an attempt to extort the ukrainian president into manufacturing dirt on his political rivals. republicans are pretty much conceding that happened, more or less, but they are arguing that ultimately the aid got released in the end. the ukrainians never announced the investigation trump wanted and everything worked out so whats a little attempted bribery between friends. >> just for the sake of their argu...

Impeachment might have had some kind of pro-republican backlash effect in red states, but that is not what is happening. the president went to kentucky and louisiana in back-to-back weeks to explicitly say, hey, electorate, this is a test of impeachment. please send the message you are against it. both times the message the electorate sent back was just the opposite. joining me now is one of the members of congress who will be conducting the public hearings, democratic congressman peter welsh of...

Peeing in, we want somebody inside peeing out. >> mulvaney is not the only one. one of the crazy things here and i think you wonder how much of this was on purpose and how much was a byproduct of everyone attending to the presidents obsessions. but you have pompeo, mulvaney and vice president pence and rick perry, all of whom appear to be in some way, shape or form connected to the fundamental thrust of the attempt to extort ukraine here. >> yeah. you have -- its all the presidents men. there ar...

Subpoena. so its only these brave folks who are serving in the state department, in the intelligence agencies and defense department that are coming forward. so the president has all of the information that he claims would be exculpatory supposedly but doesnt present it. its obviously bogus him offering to testify, its his usual bluster. he should be providing the information that presidents like nixon and clinton did. >> the state department has all sorts of documents and notes that they are no...

Open opportunity to be before the committee. im certainly hopeful that he will. its important for the american people to hear the facts surrounding this investigation and the presidents activities, behavior. some that im very concerned of that have risen to the point of corruption, extortion and bribery. so look, i think the speaker laid out very clearly over the weekend, as she has been consistent, with laying out exactly the opportunities the president has to come before the committee. and so ...

Hes done nothing wrong and he wants to let everyone know it. maybe hes got everyone talking about this, but at the end of the day he is the president of the united states and this is circling around im so he has the right to do it. maybe he is really thinking about it. who knows whether his lawyers are telling him to do it or not to do it. if it is writing, its certainly a controlled environment. i probably wouldnt send him up there because hes not the most scripted person out there so there is ...

The rule cant be you can say i dont recall and get out of perjury charges because then everyone would say that to every question and wed never have perjury, which is one of the essential tools to keep truth in our justice system going every day. and here youve got a separate problem, which is this new devastating testimony today by ambassador taylor concerns a conversation that gordon sondland had with the president of the united states. ive worked in two different administrations for two differ...

On the proceedings, he shutdown republican interpretations so quickly that the republicans gave up trying to interrupt. and jim jordan who was specifically imported into the committee just last week by republicans so that theyre so-called toughest guy could be the toughest questioner, was crushed. and i mean he was crushed by congressman peter welsh who will join us later in this hour. >> there is one witness, one witness that they wont bring in front of us. they wont bring in front of the ameri...
