SIR – Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the Conservative Party’s 1922 Committee, would like the choice of leader to be removed from party members and entrusted to MPs (Letters, May 1).

SIR – If, as Byron put it, Cervantes “smiled Spain’s chivalry away”, hopefully some bard of the future will record that “J K Rowling smiled Scotland’s wokery away”. John Webster Oxford

SIR – While I endorse the sentiments of Prince William (report, February 21), he should be reminded that the 1689 Bill of Rights – which set limits on the powers of the monarchy, and established the rights of Parliament and the people – mean that the monarchy must not interfere with political issues. SIR – How refreshing to read Davis Frost’s clear reaffirmation of Conservative values (Comment, April 30).

SIR – As an ex-Cold War warrior, though a non-combatant, I am shocked to learn that France, Germany and others have sold sophisticated arms and military supplies to Russia.

SIR – We are in a desperate energy situation (Letters, January 2).

SIR – Although people are being encouraged to take a Covid test before meeting others, Sajid Javid, the Health Secretary, has now admitted that there is a shortage of tests.
