LEE â Lee is a step closer to getting its second recreational marijuana store.
After a two-hour public hearing Tuesday night, the Select Board unanimously backed a special permit for Forest Wilde LLC to convert the Cork âN Hearth into a facility to manufacture and sell marijuana products.
The 3-0 vote followed mixed support for the project, dominated by the potential impact the facility would have on traffic on the state highway.
The Zoom meeting also featured comments and dozens of letters from Lee residents, along with several Berkshire businesspeople, saying the company should have a chance to succeed.
But, Lakehouse Inn owner Cody Gavin felt that the marijuana store didnât belong next door to his establishment.
LEE â The developer for the townâs proposed second retail recreational marijuana store likely will get more time to seek a special permit to operate near the Lenox town line.
Forest Wilde LLC will submit a request to the Select Board for an extension, asking the three-member panel to hold the hearing, possibly in two months. The reason? The developer isnât done getting approvals from the Lee Planning Board.
The Select Board was expected to take up the permit request by the end of March. Now, it could be near the end of May. Select Board Chairman David Consolati said at Tuesdayâs regular board meeting that he is willing to grant the extension. The other two board members support the extension. The board granted Consolati permission to sign the request once the board receives it.
