Petersburg graduates talk about their future plans

Petersburg High School seniors graduated May 24. But that ceremony just marks the start of their new journey into adulthood. KFSK’s Angela Denning caught up with a few of the graduates who received scholarships to help them on their path.
Lydia Martin is the senior class valedictorian. She received many local scholarships as well as one from Columbia University in New York City where she will be attending college in the fall. She’s never been to New York.

COVID show notes for Friday, May 14, 2021 –
Incident commander Karl Hagerman – COVID situation in Petersburg right now, still at low risk, four active cases, all travel related, people who have left Petersburg, returned here and since tested positive. They were symptomatic and were tested at the airport and at Petersburg Medical Center’s respiratory clinic. They have been directed to isolate and he believes the risk to festival-goers is low.
Petersburg still has a face covering mandate in place. He mentioned the Centers for Disease Control’s latest guidance on fully vaccinated people and masking.

–We are happy to report that there are no active cases in Petersburg right now. Things are looking pretty good, the risk level in Petersburg is really low, we’re at yellow, and we’re really happy to see that.

Pedometer Challenge encourages Petersburg to get walking

Petersburg residents can win prizes for walking in the month of May. It’s the annual Pedometer Challenge put on by the local tribe, Petersburg Indian Association.
The Pedometer Challenge has prizes each week for different age groups.
Tori Shay is the Director of PIA’s Tobacco Prevention and Control program, which is coordinating the event. KFSK’s Angela Denning talked to her about the details.
