The Pakistani government has announced a 35-PKR increase in petrol and diesel prices per litre. Pakistan Finance Minister Ishaq Dar announced the increase in fuel prices, which took effect at 11 a.m. on January 29. On Sunday, Ishaq Dar made the announcement during a televised address. He stated that kerosene and light diesel oil prices had been raised by PKR 18 per litre. According to the Pakistan Finance Ministry, the new price of petrol is PKR 249.80 per litre and diesel is PKR 262.80 per litre.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, at the time of announcing a reduction in excise duty, had urged states to reduce VAT. Her other cabinet colleagues including Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri made similar pleas.
The excise duty cut will translate into a reduction of Rs 8.69 a litre on petrol in Delhi and Rs 7.05 in diesel per litre after taking into account its impact on other levies.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said the Centre's decision to reduce the excise duty on petrol and diesel will bring relief to people across the country.
