At two anonymous Pfizer buildings, one in the US and one in Belgium, a remarkable experiment is under way. Up to 60 volunteers, all clean-living adults aged between 18 and 60, are being given the first pill specifically designed to stop SARS-CoV-2.
If the trial is successful, it is just possible that a home cure for Covid-19 will become available later this year. The Prime Minister, who announced the formation of a UK Antivirals Taskforce last week specifically to invest in such products, will no doubt be scanning his text messages for early updates.

A COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer Incorporated and BioNTech SE has been found to be more than 90 percent successful in large-scale trails against the coronavirus. In a press release made by Pfizer, the development team announced that their vaccine candidate had successfully deterred the spread of COVID-19 in thousands of trials and was now being submitted before the United States Food and Drug Administration for Emergency Use Authorization. Per the release, of the 43,000 test subjects, only 94 returned with positive COVID-19 cases less than a percent of participants.
The Trump administration had made a deal in June with Pfizer to ensure that the vaccine would be made free to 100 million Americans, upon successful development.

U.S. officials are preparing for the most ambitious vaccination campaign in decades as regulators rapidly advanced toward approving the first COVID-19 vaccine to slow a pandemic now killing 3,000 Americans per day.
Another 2,902 deaths were reported on Thursday, 24 hours after a record 3,253 people died, a pace projected to continue for the next two to three months even with a rapid rollout of inoculations, which could start as soon as Monday.
Moving with unprecedented speed, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is on the cusp of approving emergency use of the coronavirus vaccine developed by Pfizer Incorporated with its German partner BioNTech.
