QUEZON CITY, Jan. 29 – Dr. Fernando C. Sanchez, Professor of Horticulture at the University of the Philippines Los Baños donned rank as Lieutenant Colonel of the Philippine Army Reserve on January 28.
The Donning of Ranks Ceremony was led by the AFP Chief of Staff General Gilbert Gapay at the General Headquarters Building, Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
Widely recognized as one of the country’s esteemed pioneers in the profession of horticulture and landscape development, Ltc Sanchez has worked on the design, rehabilitation, and development of various well-known buildings, such as the Philippine General Hospital and the Dr. Jose Rizal Centennial Marker at Hibiya Park, Tokyo, Japan.

A total of 195 Tausug volunteers will compose the first batch of the first-ever Sulu Ready Reserve Battalion.
SULU: The Philippine Army is organising the first-ever battalion of reservists to boost community-based security forces against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) bandits in Sulu, military officials announced Monday.
“We are going to form the first-ever Sulu Ready Reserve Battalion. The ROTC (Reserve Officer’s Training Course) graduates would also form part of upcoming unit,” said Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom).
The battalion with come from 195 Tausugs who have graduated last Saturday from a 45-day Basic Citizen Military Training (BCMT) conducted by the Philippine Army Reserve Command.
