MANILA - A website that uses public-private key cryptography will now be available with the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) project. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said Saturday that the key cryptography called PhilSys Check features a quick response (QR) code system, which enables the relying parties to authenticate the Philippine Identification (PhilID) card and verify the data stored in its QR code. Philippine Registry Officer-in-Charge and Assistant National Statistician Fred Sollesta said the PhilSys Check is part of the government's efforts to promote "greater financial inclusion and unlocking access to basic social services" to more Filipinos. Hijab (cloth usually wrapped around the head and neck) for females and taqiyah (skull cap) for males. In a recent social media advisory, the Philippine Statistics Authority, the lead PhilSys implementing agency, clarified that registry offices will not require Muslim registrants to take off their hijab and taqiyah during photo capture. At the same time, the PSA reminded registrants nationwide that double registration and providing false information are punishable by law. So far, more than 60 million Filipinos have registered to acquire a Philippine Identification (PhilID) card or the national ID. The Step 1 online registration is via https://www.philsys.gov.ph while the final phase is the delivery of the PhilID cards by the Philippine Postal Corporation

These registrants have completed the capturing of biometric information such as fingerprints, iris, and front-facing photographs at various registration centers nationwide. PSA Undersecretary Dennis Mapa, who is also the National Statistician and Civil Registrar General, hopes the less restrictive community quarantine will allow more Filipinos to be registered in the PhilSys project. "Despite the previous challenges posed by Covid-19 during the early implementation of the PhilSys program, the PSA achieved its targets successfully. We thank our partners and the millions of Filipinos for their cooperation despite the limitations brought about by the pandemic," Mapa said in a statement on Tuesday. PhilSys registration has three steps. Step 1 is registration online via https://www.phils
