Research has shown that an increasing number of grandparents are raising their grandchildren, making it essential that they are provided with necessary resources and support needed to do so successfully, according to Karleah Harris, assistant professor in the Department of Human Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

A special session of the Arkansas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church will vote today on whether to allow 67 of its 564 congregations to leave the denomination.

The Arkansas Conference of the United Methodist Church voted this morning in Hot Springs to allow a bloc of 61 congregations to disaffiliate from the denomination. The departures of three other churches were approved in subsequent votes.

The Arkansas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church has ratified the disaffiliation requests for all 67 congregations that wished to break from the church.
