For the second year in a row, The Pine Bluff Commercial celebrates high school valedictorians, their classmates and college graduates in Jefferson County with a series of features and photo galleries highlighting the biggest moment of their academic lives thus far. This is the first of 14 entries in our series honoring the Class of 2022.

The concerns include uncertainty of what the largest school district in the county will look like, the violence affecting young people across the city, the rising number of school expulsions and the lack of opportunities for students' social and educational well-being.

Arkansas education leaders on Thursday voiced support for Pine Bluff School District Superintendent Barbara Warren and the work Warren, her staff and state partners are doing in the state-controlled Pine Bluff system.

The town hall comes after protests last week from students who say they don't feel safe at Pine Bluff High School.

Members of Pine Bluff High School's parent-teacher organization, or PTO, say some of the solutions Superintendent Barbara Warren offered to restructure the district are problematic.

Pine Bluff High School went on lockdown Monday afternoon after a shooting took place in the vicinity of 12th Avenue near the school's McGeorge Building parking lot, the Pine Bluff School District said in a statement Monday afternoon.
