WATERTOWN — Sometime during the winter of 1942-43, a soldier living here who would become a two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize walked into the offices of the Watertown Daily

He was one of the last survivors of a band of Army con artists who duped German forces with their arsenal of fakery, including inflatable tanks and scripted radio transmissions.

Ruth Irene Robl, 96, a lifetime Black River native, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on May 16, 2021 at the Samaritan Summit Nursing Home, where she had resided since July of 2015. Louise Henry White of Clayton, who operated a La Fargeville business with her husband for more than 30 years, passed peacefully with her family by her side on Good Friday, April 2, 2021, at Samaritan Keep Home.
