To comply with new state standards, some school zones in Leon County will see a drop in the speed limit.

Leon County Schools announced Monday morning that speed limits in several Leon County school zones are set to drop.

Bond, a Title I school, is one of four schools that improved at least one letter grade during the pandemic, a time when many schools sank in grades.

Carmen Conner was a classroom teacher at Pineview Elementary School before recently becoming the new principal. Carmen overheard a student talking about how he wanted to be on the FSU football team during report card night. She wanted to inspire him, so she made a phone call to set up a tour of FSU for the fourth grade class. They saw many parts of FSU and what their future could look like. She believes that letting kids see a life they could live will inspire them to achieve that life.

The health department did not ask volunteers to leave voicemails with people who do not answer their phones, but volunteers will call a person multiple times, he said.  The department does not have one phone number dedicated to scheduling appointments, so those waiting for an appointment should answer all calls from an unknown number.
