Heat lamp believed to have caused structure fire on Quincy FacebookTwitterEmail A structure fire reported to the Plainview Fire Department on Friday is believed to have been caused by a heat lamp. The department responded to 903 Quincy St. around 7:40 p.m. and found a detached residential garage fully engulfed in flames. The firefighters brought the fire under control and extinguished it by 9:04 p.m. but the garage and a small shed on the same property were deemed a total loss. Minor damages were also noted to the residence as well as the residence at 901 Quincy. The homeowner told the department that a heat lamp was plugged in to keep a dog warm at the rear of the garage. That is what FD believes likely caused the fire.

After more than 31 years, Mize’s last day with the Plainview Fire Department was Thursday. Mize has served the department in different capacities as a firefighter, equipment operator and as Fire Marshal, a position he’s held for the last 20 years. Mize has taught investigation and code inspection classes. He also has Master Certifications for Fire Fighter, Arson Investigator, Code Inspections and Peace Officer and is an Advanced EMT. During his time with the department, Mize brought the Shattered Dreams Program to Plainview High School.
