Rotary hears presentation about PolioPlus program

Plainview Rotarians got together for their weekly meeting Tuesday via Zoom as a precaution as the holiday season approaches.
The program for the day was presented by club member Charles Starnes, Plainview mayor and Wayland Baptist University professor. Starnes gave a presentation on Rotary’s PolioPlus program, developed to eradicate the disease.
The international organization began its fight against polio in the Philippines in 1979 and PolioPlus was launched in 1985. The program is funded in part through donations from organization members and in 1989, The Plainview Rotary Club pledged $153,500 to the program. The club still makes weekly donations.

Plainview Rotarians got together for their weekly meeting Tuesday via Zoom as a precaution as the holiday season approaches. Makayla Cruz was introduced as the December Student of the Month. Makayla is the daughter of Thomas and the late Erin Cruz. She is a senior at Plainview Christian Academy and enjoys participating in sports. She is a member of the National Honor Society, works in the nursery at Harvest Christian Fellowship, is on her church’s youth leadership team, participates with her school for the Adopt-a-Highway program, volunteers for the Faith in Sharing House and works part time in the office at Sears. Makayla plans to attend Wayland Baptist University, majoring in nursing, with a
