Gyeonggi police launched an investigation into a dog farm in Gwangju last weekend after finding eight dead dogs and the bones of 21 unidentified animals. Police suspected the farm owner had abandoned the animals in violation of the animal protection law. The Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency is currently examining the remains to identify the cause of their deaths. The unidentified bones are believed to be of dogs, goats and cats, according to the police. The police also found 51 dogs alive, all caged, at the farm.
Suspect said he recovered abandoned dogs and starved them to death, while animal rights activists allege he was paid by dog farmers to dispose of canines past their breeding age.
