The New Jersey Devils saw a six-game home winning streak end in a 2-5 loss to the Montreal Canadiens. The Devils were torched three times from the weakside, the Devils put only half of their shooting attempts on net, and Sam Montembeault was excellent. This is a recap of that loss.

They fell behind early, and a disastrous early second period was not followed up by a notable third.

Despite missing Jack Hughes, Dougie Hamilton scored two power play goals while Mackenzie Blackwood put on a show in net to deliver a victory for the Devils.

The defense was terrible tonight. Everyone else showed up, for the most part.

It did not look good late, but Dougie Hamilton had other ideas.

Blackwood played extremely well as depth scoring led the way. The Devils continue their awesome road record this season.

Bad play by the defensemen (not named Severson) and extremely questionable personnel choices doomed the Devils despite Hughes and Hischier combining for all three of their goals.

Mackenzie Blackwood had a bad start. Vanecek did rather well in the third as the comeback came up just short.

The Devils need to score more than one a game to win.
