Residents of Michigan have long been known as gathers. Given Michigan’s rich natural resources and an abundance of state and federal land, opportunities to harvest flora, fauna and wild game is prevalent. Several of my recent articles have encouraged students, parents and grandparents to spend some time enjoying our Michigan wildlife.
Spring in West Michigan has always been a special time for me and my family. We too, are hunters and gathers. During the spring much of my leisure time is spent harvesting Steelhead Trout, leaks and morel mushrooms. Many of my earliest and fondest memories were the product of time spent with my parents and siblings gathering and enjoying nature’s bounty.
