in memphis, slamone, what s happening a continued fall-out from this incident from the horrific beating after the video what public the sheriff here in the shelby county put out a statement learned two of his deputies were on scene that night and as a result of that because of this video becoming public, he s placed those deputies on leave, so it s two sheriffs deputies that are now on leave, and of course, you know, we re learning more between about this scorpion unit, the team that these officers were part of, the family calling for them to be disbanded well the mayor and police department here saying that that unit for right now is not operating in this city, they have sort of suspended their operations while they continue their investigation. but they re not outright going to say at this point that they re going to disband this unit, they re blaming the problems on these officers and not the unit, the other thing throughout this and of course, watching this video, laura
video. reporter: good morning. prior to the video s release, we were told it would be inhumane and savage and appears the videos live up to the descriptions and it all started earlier this month an january 7 when memphis police officers pulled over tyre nichols. body cam video shows an officer aggressively yank nichols out of his vehicles and the 29-year-old tells officers he wants to go home. nichols escapes from police and they tase him as he takes off down the road and at that point officers chase him and later on other officers spot him and catch up to him. nichols is on the ground as officers restrain him, punch him, and pepper spray him. all the while the officers are demanding he give them his hands as nichols calls out for his mother. mom! mom! mom! mom! mom! reporter: now, even though it appears officers have control of nichols, the assault continues. at one point you see an officer kick nichols in the head at least twice as if he s punting a football and then offi

laura:protesters took to the streets across the us last night, most of those demonstrations were people peaceful but the fallout is unfolding as the sheriff opens an investigation into two deputies who were also on scene that night. steve harrigan is live in memphis with more on this and the video we are about to show you is difficult to watch. here is steve. reporter: small number of protesters gathering in memphis at police headquarters. it is been largely peaceful since the tape was released at 7:00 pm eastern last night. the tape about one hour long, detailing what happened to tyre nichols on january seventh, first a traffic stop, initial beating, nichols runs away and a second beating, some details to note from that video, first, nichols was attacked with a variety of weapons, tasers, batons, punches and kicks. at 6 foot 3, one hundred 35 pounds there is no sign he offers any physical resistance during the beating. instead he is restrained at times by one officer whi
