VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - In a meeting Tuesday night, Virginia Beach city leaders unanimously voted to move funds towards police initiatives, including adding more cameras, to help with public safety in the city s Resort area.
The vote was 11-0.

âCustomers and people that were visiting, some of them actually cut their visit early because they didnât feel safe over here. They heard about the shootings, so they cut their vacation early. Thatâs not good for us.â Beck said. âI know some of the employees that donât want to come to work on weekends because theyâre scared.â

Recently, Paul Neudigate, the Chief of the Virginia Beach Police Department, said there has been an issue with manpower in the department. “We are down 100 officers, but really a city of this size needs 150 to 200 officers,” he said.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. There is a push to get more security cameras at the Oceanfront. This comes two weeks after three separate shootings left two people dead and several others injured.
During a budget discussion on Tuesday afternoon, Police Chief Paul Neudigate talked to city council members about his plans to keep the community safe. His recommendations include adding 42 new security cameras at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Currently, 50 cameras capture certain sections of the resort area.
