Now that you’ve accepted your offer to Penn State, and maybe even found a roommate, you might be wondering what comes next. If this is you, it’s time to pick your housing option for your freshman year in Happy Valley! Choosing where you want to live can certainly be a challenge. Each residence hall complex has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. To make your choice just a little bit easier, we broke down the options. North Halls North Halls offers renovated suite-style and temperature-controlled rooms in its buildings. With North Halls being the smallest residence hall complex on campus, many students enjoy living in a relatively quiet environment. Living here will put you close to the library, the Palmer Art Museum, and the Forum Building, where you’re almost guaranteed to have a class as a freshman (…if classes are in person, that is).

Although Tuesday was the first day of classes for Penn State students, University Park resembled more of a ghost town than anything else. A day that’s usually marked by lost freshmen, packed Blue Loops, and busy sidewalks was replaced with a few straggling joggers and “closed during the remote period” signs. The pandemic has uprooted yet another semester, as only student-athletes, international students, and those with extenuating circumstances remain on campus until February 12. In the morning, when folks would typically be walking to their 8 a.m.s, it snowed. But instead of campus looking like a winter wonderland, it resembled a frozen, deserted tundra.
