tackling the inflation crisis. the president just published an opinion piece in the wall street journal, saying the u.s. is better positioned to confront these economic challenges in most countries. he writes, in part, with the right polpolicies, the u.s. can transfer from recovery to stable growth, and bring down inflation without giving up historic gains. john harwood joins us from the white house. interesting argument, john. he was internationalizing this, which is true. inflation is going up in a bunch of countries. politically, that doesn t matter. here in the u.s., with midterms coming up, what is the administration s plan to tackle? reporter: well, your pointing to politics is the right thing. this is less a new plan than reframing the argument the administration has been making. three points to it. the first, which is 90% of the plan, is letting the fed do its job. the fed controls monetary policy. they have the biggest effect on inflation. the other two about lowering co

we played before the break donald trump, asserting, claiming he doesn t like the feel of this. your saying, the cruelty is deliberate because it is a deterrent. absolutely. we hear reports from the community all the time, they are so afraid. they are afraid for their own status, they are afraid for their children. all they are doing is creating fear. yeah. i mean, i completely agree with that. it s just real cruelty. i mean, now with them talking about doing additional stuff, additional separation, they have to fix the mess they created. the one thing i would say, there is no question there is fear in the u.s. and detouring families from coming forward, going to school. to the extent administration thinks that migrants won t come here seeking asylum because of these polpolicies, that s wrong. i don t think anybody can tell you democratic or republican
andrea: mrs. obama is her husband s most effective messenger. interesting to see what she will say to make the case. hope she doesn t stoop to war on women rhetoric. she is travelling around talking about the importance of arugula an organic salmon. hopefully other issues on the docket. eric: the most important speech is barack obama s speech. bob: my view about this, you ought to take a page from romney s speech. not attack romney. plenty of people will do that. he needs to make comparisons between his policies and whether you think there are polpolicies with romney. more than that, he needs to do some mea culpa. he set expectations too high. he didn t meet them and needs to stand up to that. it would be a good idea for him. whether it s in his character i don t know.
