Squadron Leader Arthur Pongo Scarf was the only member of the RAF serving in the Far East to receive Britains highest award for valour. His medal will now remain in the UK.

As of last night, the RAF Museum still needs to raise just under £100,000 to prevent Arthur Pongo Scarfs medal from leaving the UK, but it has just nine days left to do it.

Pilot Arthur Pongo Scarf (pictured) was honoured with the highest award for valour for singlehandedly attacking an enemy airfield after all the others planes in his squadron were destroyed.
