WHO ISJUSTICE N V RAMANA? Justice N V Ramana Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana is the 48th Chief Justice of India (CJI). He succeeded CJI Sharad Arvind Bobde, who retired on April 23, 2021. Justice Ramana will have a term till August 26, 2022, completing a tenure of 8 years in the apex court. Before being appointed to the SC, Justice Ramana held the positions of Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court and the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court (HC). Born on August 27, 1957 in Ponnavaram Village, Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh, Ramana belonged to an agricultural family. As a student leader, he was actively involved in the protests against the 1975 Emergency.

Justice NV Ramana was administered the Oath of office by the Indian President Ram Nath Kovind as the new Chief Justice of India.
He will be the 48th person to hold the post and his term will end on August 26, 2022.
Previously, he was the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court and the acting Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court. He has also served as the president of the Andhra Pradesh Judicial Academy.
He is a first-generation lawyer, having an agricultural background, and hails from Ponnavaram Village, Krishna District in Andhra Pradesh. He is an avid reader and literature enthusiast. He is passionate about Carnatic music.

President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind appointed Justice NV Ramana, whose full name is Justice Nuthalapathi Venkata Ramana, as the 48th Chief Justice of India (CJI) today. Justice NV Ramana has received the Warrant of Appointment and a copy of the Notification of Appointment. His tenure will start from April 24, 2021 and last till August 26, 2022.

New Delhi [India], April 6 (ANI): Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana, who will take over as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India on April 24, guided the legal service authorities to provide assistance to vulnerable groups during the challenge posed by COVID-19 as executive chairman of NALSA (National Legal Services Authority).
The Legal Service Authorities (LSAs) were at the forefront of providing legal, non-legal, and financial assistance under the leadership of Justice Ramana.
They swiftly adapted to revaluate their operating model in view of the COVID-19 situation.

New Delhi [India], April 6 (ANI): Justice NV Ramana, who is all set to assume charge as the 48th Chief Justice of India on April 24, is a first-generation lawyer having an agricultural background and his judgments are known for clear dictums including his recent judgment that ended a year-long internet ban in Jammu and Kashmir in 2020 after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
Accepting the recommendation made by the outgoing Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, retiring on April 23, the President has appointed Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana as the 48th CJI.
