Stockton’s Basic-Income Experiment Pays Off A new study of the city’s program that sent cash to struggling individuals finds dramatic changes. March 3, 2021 Two years ago, the city of Stockton, California, did something remarkable: It brought back welfare. Using donated funds, the industrial city on the edge of the Bay Area tech economy launched a small demonstration program, sending payments of $500 a month to 125 randomly selected individuals living in neighborhoods with average incomes lower than the city median of $46,000 a year. The recipients were allowed to spend the money however they saw fit, and they were not obligated to complete any drug tests, interviews, means or asset tests, or work requirements. They just got the money, no strings attached.

Haryana Chief Minister Khattar pledges to uplift state s poor ANI | Updated: Mar 01, 2021 17:24 IST Chandigarh (Haryana) [India], March 1 (ANI): Chief Minister of HaryanaManohar Lal Khattar on Monday pledged to uplift the economic status of poor families residing in the state and for this, the state government has resolved to increase the family income of around one lakh families having the lowest income to at least Rs one lakh annually. Khattar said that the identification of the poor families will be done through a family identity card survey, the Directorate of Information, Public Relations and Languages Department of (DPR), Haryana informed. Shri Vishwakarma Skill University (SVSU), Gurgaon which is India s first government skill university will create a course for those standing on the lowest rungs and self-help groups will also be included in the scheme.
