Three environmental groups have filed notice of their intent to sue Ameren over coal ash they allege could enter the Mississippi River. PORTAGE DES SIOUX Three environmental groups on Wednesday announced they have filed a notice of intent to sue Ameren regarding alleged violations of the federal Clean Water Act. Representatives of the Waterkeeper Alliance, the Missouri Confluence Waterkeeper and the Great Rivers Environmental Law Center alleged Ameren is continuing unpermitted discharges of toxic coal ash pollutants from the company’s Sioux Energy Center four miles from Portage Des Sioux, across the Mississippi River from Godfrey.
