Across Lake and Porter counties, voters got a hand Tuesday in crafting the November ballot, selecting their preferred candidates for mayor, clerk-treasurer and city or town council, in addition to school referendums in Highland, Lowell and Munster, though officials in both counties said turnout for the municipal primaries was low.
With only town and city elections on the ballot early voting turnout was slow in Porter County Monday. Voters are choosing party candidates for contested primary races in Chesterton, Kouts, Portage, Porter and Valparaiso this year.
In exactly one hour and one minute the Porter County Election Board certified the general election results Friday afternoon. With the help of the Elections & Registration Office and two French bulldogs present for emotional support the certification went off without a hitch.
The election board approved using electronic pollbooks for the travel board that goes to places like nursing homes so residents can vote without having to leave home.
