Babita Deokarans death is believed to have been a targeted hit in connection with her role as a witness in a probe into an irregular PPE contract in the Gauteng Health Department.

The long-awaited report is expected to be handed over to President Cyril Ramaphosa on Friday.

The six men charged with the murder say they were all wrongfully arrested and forced to sign a confession, claiming they were tortured by police.

The six men are accused of shooting Gauteng Health Department official, Babita Deokaran, outside her Winchester Hills home, south of Johannesburg in August this year.

Deokaran, who was a witness in Gautengs personal protective equipment (PPE) corruption scandal, was gunned down outside her house last Monday after dropping her daughter off at school.

Seven people have been arrested after Babita Deokaran, a Gauteng health official and key witness in the SIU probe into PPE corruption, was shot and killed outside her home.

Babita Deokaran, who served as the chief director of financial accounting in the Health Department, was shot several times outside her Mondeor home in the south of Johannesburg on Monday.

Gauteng Premier David Makhura said that until the perpetrators of corruption were arrested, he and his government must be held responsible for the murder of senior official, Babita Deokaran.

Seven suspects have been handcuffed in connection with Deokarans murder.
