MisOr cops eye increased visibility in tourist, rural areas

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY The Misamis Oriental Provincial Police Office (MPPO) Wednesday said it plans to increase police visibility in tourist areas and rural communities of the province. During a media briefing, Col. Gonzalo Villamor Jr., MPPO director, said having more police presence in tourist spots is aligned with the provincial government's plans to develop the province into a tourism hub in the country. "Generally we don't have major problems in the province since we are generally peaceful, so we can deploy (more) police on tourist destinations," he said. Likewise, he said having more police personnel deployed in hinterland communities would support the Army's Community Support Program, which is part of the government's ant-insurgency campaign. Pedro Martirez Jr., BPPO director, said Thursday his request from the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PRO-BARMM) entails the deployment of 400 more police officers. Martirez said he also asked the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) to augment its contingent based in this province. "I requested for additional troops considering we lack personnel," Martirez said in an interview.
