HUBBALLI: As several Covid-19 patients are showing mild symptoms or asymptomatic, there has been an increase in home isolation in Belagavi division.
As per the health department, out of 26,612 active cases in the division, which includes Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag, Belagavi, Vijayapura, Bagalkot and Uttara Kannada districts, more than 18,854 patients are isolated at home and 7,758 are admitted to hospital.
Asymptomatic patients or those with mild symptoms are being advised to home quarantine and many also prefer to stay in home isolation.
Divisional joint director of health and family welfare Dr Prabhu Biradar said teams have been formed to monitor home isolated patients on a regular basis. “Soon after getting the list of positive cases in their areas the team members contact patients over phone. They ask their health history and current condition and then advice drugs, diet and other things,” he said.
HUBBALLI/ BIDAR: Amid mounting anxiety over availability of beds and oxygen with Covid-19 cases rising in the seven districts comprising the Belagavi division – Dharwad, Belagavi, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Gadag, Uttara Kannada and Haveri – the authorities have taken steps to ensure that taluk hospitals and other healthcare institutions are in a position to accommodate all infected patients.
Across the division, 5,880 beds have been arranged at government hospitals in the seven districts, including those supplied with oxygen and those in the ICU.
Divisional joint director of health and family welfare Dr Prabhu Biradar said that government hospitals and health centres had been directed to tend to patients with mild to moderate symptoms of Covid-19. “In taluk hospitals, around 50% of the beds have oxygen supply, and each of them has around two to five ventilators. And if the situation worsens, all these hospitals are prepared to handle the load,” Dr Biradar added.
HUBBALLI: With cases surging, the government has decided to ramp up bed capacity in hospitals, including ICU beds, increase testing in crowded areas and take measures to lower the fatality rate.
At an official review meeting of the pandemic situation on Tuesday, it was decided to ramp up medical infrastructure by increasing the number of oxygen and ICU beds across major hospitals.
Nodal officers have been appointed in each district to oversee arrangements that have been made to treat patients. They will submit daily reports to their superiors.
Dr KV Trilok Chandra, commissioner, health and family welfare department, said those at the two-day review meeting took stock of the preparedness of all Covid hospitals in all districts.
