The Supreme Court has adjourned Umar Khalids plea for bail in a case linked to the February 2020 northeast Delhi riots for two weeks. Khalid, a former JNU student, was arrested by the Delhi Police in September 2020 for allegedly being a "mastermind" of the riots. The Delhi High Court rejected his bail plea in October 2022. The Supreme Court judge Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra had earlier recused himself from hearing Khalids petition challenging the High Courts order.

A bench of Justices Aniruddha Bose and Bela M Trivedi said the matter needs to heard on a non-miscellaneous day. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are non-miscellaneous days in the apex court when matters which require detailed hearing are taken up.
