Thousands of prayer gatherings will be held on the first Thursday of May as the National Day of Prayer will be in full force with groups congregating nationwide to participate in praying for the nation's needs and to listen to the National Day of Prayer broadcast. 

Mayor Lester Miller issued a proclamation for the day, highlighting the enduring importance of prayer, which traces back to the era of the first U.S. President.
