Khmer-language author Troeung Ngea, who wrote books about ancient Khmer civilisation and a history of the Khmer people, passed away at the age of 83 at 7am on August 28, after a lengthy period of illness.
Nearly 14,000ha of farmland in Zone 2 and Zone 3 of the Tonle Sap Lake have so far been allocated by the government to some 7,000 households in the provinces surrounding the lake, according to preliminary data seen by The Post on June 7.
Prime Minister Hun Sen issued a sub-decree on May 27 reassigning more than 34sq km of land in Zone 3 of the protected area surrounding Tonle Sap Lake to Zone 2. The rezoning will allow restricted use of the land for the 1,658 households in Pursat province that rely on it.
Banteay Meanchey provincial authorities have finished the planting of trees across the entire Zone 3 of the Tonle Sap Lake, with more than 30,000 flooded forest trees and bamboo seedlings planted in an area of about 12,000ha. On February 13, provincial leaders, civil servants and members of the armed forces cooperated in the eighth and final replanting.
