County Wexford is pulling out all the stops this October Bank Holiday weekend. There is everything from pumpkin picking to ghost tours, adult scare nights to kids discos to ensure that all the family have a frightfully good time over the next few days. Below is a run-down of everything on offer across Co Wexford this weekend.

There is simply no better place to be in Ireland in October than Wexford, when the town becomes a hive of cultural activity to celebrate the annual Wexford Festival Opera. Now in its 72nd year, Wexford Festival Opera continues to amaze and delight in equal measure, when operatic performers from all over the world convene at the National Opera House for two weeks of world-class opera.

Ever since Stephen King ruined clowns for everyone with the terrifying Pennywise, this once beloved circus character has taken on a darker, more brooding tone. And in Mask, a forthcoming one-man play written by Paul O’Reilly, the clown once more undergoes a makeover and becomes a serious, sometimes mysterious, character.

1: CULTURE NIGHT

While we were all delighted to see a break in the damp, dreary weather on Monday morning, few were as happy as Belfast-born artist Eoin McGinn, known as Emic. Having endured a challenging few days weather-wise, he was finally getting set to mount a cherry-picker once again to put the finishing touches to the eighth and final Wexford Walls mural.

Enniscorthy author Maria Nolan launched her latest novel in the Presentation Centre recently, with guest appearances from her friends and fellow novelists Carmel Harrington and Caroline Busher.
