Student leaders vote in support of defunding University Police

At the last meeting of the school year, the Associated Students’ board of directors voted Tuesday to urge Cal State Fullerton to reallocate funds from the University Police Department to mental health services. The resolution, which passed 11-0 with six members abstaining, called for University Police to ban all aggressive police tactics, lethal firearms and excessive use of force during student events, student protests or any other campus affairs. Prior to the meeting, Dave Edwards, ASI executive director, said in an email to the Daily Titan on Monday that ASI cannot defund campus police because the university funds the University Police Department.

April 15, 2021 Share This: Cal State Fullerton celebrated its 2021 University Awards Program with a virtual ceremony featuring fun videos, jeopardy quizzes, scratch-off ticket prizes and sincere appreciation. Hosted by President Fram Virjee and David Forgues, vice president for human resources, diversity and inclusion, faculty and staff members were thanked for their service to Cal State Fullerton. “While only a handful of faculty and staff will be recognized with awards today, all of us deserve this moment to revel in our collaborative success,” said Virjee. “I especially want to give a shoutout to our Re-Entry Leadership Team. Know that as we repopulate the campus over the summer and fall, this cross-campus group of Titan heroes is behind all of it. I also want to give special recognition to all the employees who have remained on campus from day one, supporting and maintaining the university’s ongoing operations.”

Creating a Welcoming and Safe Climate for CSUF's Asian Pacific Islander Community

April 1, 2021 Share This: As Americans become more aware of systemic racism and oppression against members of the Asian Pacific Islander (API) community, Cal State Fullerton is challenging its faculty, staff and students to “take the pledge” of solidarity with the API community.  In a letter on the Titans Together website, President Fram Virjee states, “Titan Family, now more than ever, it is time to take a stand and embrace the responsibility that comes with being home to the third-largest API population in the nation at a time when the very people who are the manifestation of that ranking are being subjected to discrimination, racism and even violence. We must act as an inclusive steward of place when our colleagues and classmates are suffering from this marginalization. We must call it out for what it is racism and xenophobia and counter it with acts of inclusion, kindness and community.”
