The Hayden City Council will form a commission to explore public safety and policing in the city after members approved an ordinance during a regular meeting Tuesday.
City Council members voted Tuesday to create a committee to explore the idea of developing a Hayden city police department rather than continuing to pay the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office for police coverage.
The Hayden City Council approved a $1 million contract with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday to dedicate 10 deputies to the city through 2024.
