In a virtual ceremony held on May 19, 2021, Consul General Zaldy Patron expressed optimism that the cooperation between the Philippine universities and the USask will “go a long way and will be beneficial for all parties”.
Under the MOU, the parties will collaborate on several areas, including in the exchanges and internships for students, faculty, and staff, and in joint research and development projects.
The virtual signing ceremony coincided with the celebrations of the 27th Anniversary of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the 1st National Higher Education Day in the Philippines and was attended by CHED Chairperson Prospero De Vera, Canadian Ambassador to Manila Peter MacArthur, Dr. Meghna Ramaswamy and Dr. Darcy Marciniuk of USask, and Consul General Patron.
USask has been a key sponsor of Co.Labs since the incubator’s inception in 2018. Under the agreement, the university will provide an annual investment of $60,000 for three years. This is an increase from the current support of $30,000 per year in support of Co.Launch a 12-week program in which founders learn startup fundamentals and compete for funding and a full-time spot at Co.Labs. The new MOU was announced by USask President Peter Stoicheff at the virtual Co.Launch pitch event held Thursday. “Our relationship with Co.Labs exemplifies the vision outlined in our University Plan 2025, and is an excellent example of the meaningful impact we have within our community and how we are prepared to be the university the world needs,” said Stoicheff. “We both have a common mission to generate ideas, and support them to find success out in the world, and we are proud to partner with Co.Labs on this important work.”
SASKATOON The University of Saskatchewan is preparing for classes and in-person labs to return in September. In a statement, President Peter Stoicheff said that COVID-19 numbers are currently high in Saskatchewan - but the university believes the rapid deployment of vaccines means a more open fall term can proceed. On Friday, students will begin to see the details for course offerings through the registration system. Student residences will also be more fully opened.

But Monday s announcement is aimed towards the future, potentially shoring up the country s capability to identify and face down emerging pandemics. It signals Canada’s recognition of VIDO’s global prominence in vaccine research and development that will protect the health and safety of all Canadians, university President Peter Stoicheff said.
