RICHMOND, Va. - The state Senate took action Tuesday to sanction a Republican member who praised the U.S. Capitol rioters as patriots, and two GOP members of the House of Delegates complained that their punishment for seeking to nullify the state s slate of presidential electors amounted to stifling free speech.
A day before President-elect Joe Biden was to take office in Washington, the impact of President Donald Trump s attempt to hold on to power and his followers attack on the U.S. Capitol this month continued to reverberate a two-hour drive down the road in Richmond.

Congress was debating the certification of Electoral College results Wednesday afternoon when the crowd of protesters outside breached the building, requiring the Capitol to go on lock down.
For months, Trump has unsuccessfully tried to overturn results in several battleground states, claiming the election was stolen despite no evidence of widespread fraud. Some Republicans in both chambers had planned to object to the certification of electoral votes for Biden.

But first a recap of previous failed legal maneuvers concerning the election…
Somebody please tell President Trump’s election lawyers there’s a federal statute – 3 U.S.C. § 1 – which requires all elections for Presidential Electors to be completed on Election Day. Texas failed to mention 3 U.S.C. § 1 in their brief, so how could Texas rely on 3 U.S.C. § 2, which states:
