right place at the right time to be jim jordan chairing the house judiciary committee for example. and he s he s getting ready to look into situations like this . the american people and our voters are demanding it. we will not let him down on that front. and how, stephen , important is it when republicans get back into power to expose what this big government socialism has done to small business across america which is being crushed right now and this inflation? well, my proposal is they need to form a series of select committees just like the democrats did. we pick who the republicans are and we get to pick who the democrats are if any at all issue a flood of subpoenas. do primetime hearings demand equal time, do them on open borders, do them on the destruction of small businesses, on inflation and runaway crime, on the formula shortage, on the debacle in afghani s van and the corruption the rot at doj issue after issue week after week exposed the scandals
you re probably hearing the same thing we are. they feel that maybe yesterday s hearings should have been the primetime hearings. there s so much of that that was damning and captivating. this idea that essentially everybody around donald trump was telling him not to do what he ultimately did, claim that he won the election. a lot of those people changed their minds since, but in that moment, some of that testimony was really damning. the fact that you have barr or ivanka or meadows or bill stepien, all the people saying, don t don t, and he did it. internally, they had themselves, the normal camp, people who are pro-reality. rudy giuliani, they claim, was drunk, roaming the halls saying, you won. you won. he was the only person in the president s ear saying that. if that had been done in
capitol insurrection will testify at thursday s first public televised hearing. the select committee investigating the riot has asked a documentarian to testify about his experience of filming members of the extremist group in the week leading up to january 6th. capitol police officer caroline edwards is also expected to testify. she was injured when rioters stormed the capitol, which she was trying to defend. and the justice department has charged five leaders of the proud boys with seditious conspiracy in connection with the january 6th attack. let s discuss with elie honig and abby phillip here in the flesh, in-person with us. also good to have elie here. it s okay. let s start with the proud boys and this charge and their role on thursday at these primetime hearings. fit this into the narrative here, because i m not suggesting there s any coordination between doj and the committee, but the
the initial approach to getting that was multi-access approach, military approach failed. so what they re looking to do is to gain as much territory now and to hold onto the territory they have. if they re doing tremendously well, they might be indeed spurred to go further, but they have had tremendous difficulties with supplies and with personnel. so they might also want to take a breather and rebuild to the extent they are able. but, you know, it s far from over in the east, and even in the south which is where russia is consolidating control. so there is still a long way to go before that is the most plausible scenario. okay. the international crisis group, thank you for joining us. still to come, the house committee investigating the january 6 capitol insurrection is about to make its case public with primetime hearings. we ll have the details just ahead. and with the u.s. midterms
this for decades. i think over the last few decades, the whole point of congressional hearings has really become that is because it s so politicized. and i think democrats and general haven t done a good job at investigating. and a lot of it because of the republican obstruction, about the ukrainian phone call. the democrats didn t figure out how to turn around. i m impressed, though, by the january six committee up to now. i think they ve been very smart, very good in what they put out. the information they have put out, and the hearings they have held. i think they have primetime hearings coming up next week. they have they will be creating articles to save i m not sure there s a lot of persuasion to be done on this. we have all these people talking about, just wait to have a moment testified.
