The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a Rs 4,797 crore "PRITHvi VIgyan" scheme for the Ministry of Earth Sciences to study the atmosphere, ocean, weather, and Earth system sciences. The scheme, which will be implemented between 2021-26, aims to enhance long-term observations of the Earth System, develop modeling systems for weather prediction, promote exploration of polar and high seas regions, and develop technology for oceanic resource harnessing
