Wake Forest University conducted Monday graduation ceremonies for its Class of 2024, the first in which undergraduates spent their entire college years living and learning under the COVID-19 pandemic’s shadow.

Laura Mullen cited “personal reasons” for her decision to step down as the Kenan Chair of the Humanities in the English and Creative Writing Department after she claimed she received several threats from irate parents for her post, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.

The now-deleted post led to an uproar in the campus community.

Colleges are searching for ways to learn more about students’ backgrounds and experiences.

Professor Corey Walker has been named the interim dean of the Wake Forest University School of Divinity, the university said Tuesday. Walker will begin his duties Jan. 1.
