Carbon County still reeling from COVID cases [Standard-Speaker, Hazleton, Pa.]
Jan. 31 Nearly 80 Carbon County employees tested positive for COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic with 25 testing positive this year alone, Commissioner Rocky Ahner reported Thursday.
Twenty-one employees returned to work, while the remaining four from this year can return Monday or Tuesday, he said.
Six county employees were out awaiting test results or in quarantine, Ahner said. Other employees who were outstanding or quarantined have returned to work, he said.
The prison population, Ahner said, was no longer contagious and a quarantine there can end as of this past Wednesday. The warden and staff will be move inmates around and getting back to a more normal schedule, he said.
Carbon County commissioners gifted numerous small businesses, nonprofits, tourism groups and at least one municipality with COVID-19 relief grant distributions at a Christmas Eve meeting.
