Dear Colleague Letter: Supplemental Funding for Postdoctoral Researchers to Mitigate COVID-19 Impacts on Research Career Progression (nsf21066) | NSF

NSF 21-066 April 6, 2021 BACKGROUND NSF seeks to lessen the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) research and STEM education research and development. Known impacts include decreased faculty research productivity and difficulty in initiating and/or maintaining a career trajectory in either STEM or STEM education research and development. The goal of this funding opportunity is to support sustained research productivity and career progression of early career researchers who have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. Such support could sustain the research careers of new or current postdoctoral researchers, as well as help mitigate pandemic-related reductions in research productivity of early career faculty.

Dear Colleague Letter: Computer and Information Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowships (CSGrad4US) (nsf21044) | NSF

February 2, 2021 Dear Colleagues: The computer and information science and engineering fields are experiencing booming undergraduate enrollments. Many of these undergraduate degree recipients have outstanding job opportunities in industry and at other organizations, and only a small fraction of these individuals considers pursuing related doctoral degree-granting programs. In order to increase the number of diverse, domestic graduate students in these areas and thereby bolster the U.S. population in the Nation s computer and information science and engineering research and innovation workforce, the National Science Foundation s (NSF) Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) announces its intention to support CISE Graduate Fellowships (CSGrad4US) as a pilot effort. In particular, CSGrad4US is intended for individuals who have some practical experience following their bachelor s degree and are now interested in pursuing a research-based doctoral degree.

◆ The National Science Foundation (NSF) will be accepting comments on a revised version of its Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) expected to be finalized sometime next year. “To facilitate review, revised text has been highlighted in yellow throughout the document to identify significant changes. A brief comment explanation of the change also is provided,” the agency said in a Dec. 14 Federal Register notice. In an email to stakeholders, NSF Policy Head Jean Feldman said the draft incorporates “the revised [2 C.F.R. § 200]: Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Award that was effective November 12, 2020,” noting that “we have not highlighted the revised references throughout the document.” Feldman also said NSF award conditions currently apply “if there is a discrepancy” between them and the revised 2 C.F.R. § 200.
