A one-party authoritarian government system can work well to become a developed nation but at least some areas should be less politicised, said eminent economist Prof Wahiduddin Mahmud.

Due to the challenges facing democracy in Bangladesh, the Election Commission (EC) cannot hold fair elections nor can it even dare to do so, said former adviser to a caretaker government Akbar Ali Khan yesterday.
