10 June 2021 - The constitutional amendment was pushed along through a highly visible campaign of public and parliamentary hearings, along with invitations for written submissions. These were nominally held to gauge whether or not such an amendment was required, and what the public thought of it. Hundreds of thousands of submissions were made on the issue, with all indications that the bulk of these opposed the amendment.
