Bridget Veals, general manager of womenswear, footwear and accessories at David Jones, says this season, a dress is not only practical, “in that it’s one item that needs little adding to – it can also act as an immediate mood enhancer”. But behavioural psychologist Professor Carolyn Mair, author of The Psychology of Fashion, says there is no scientific evidence that dresses in general are mood-lifting, though if someone is already in a positive mindset, they ”are far more likely to reach for what we might describe as a feel-good dress”.
